I’ve decided I’ll try to start a blog series that will act as a tour of Oahu’s beaches. It can be hard sometimes to leave the comfort of our own backyard beach and take the time to venture out to new places, but there are SO many amazing beaches to experience in Oahu that I really want to make the effort to get out and see them all and capture their essence in photographs so I can share some of our favorites with you.

My friend Rachel showed me Kailua Beach the first time I went, and I’ve been dying to show Christian ever since. The turquoise water and powdery sand make it the kind of beach I think everyone pictures when they imagine Hawaii. It is gorgeous and the absolute perfect beach for spending an entire day lounging. Yesterday we finally made the time to pack up the car and go – it’s about a 50 minute drive from where we live, which isn’t bad, but does take a little more forethought and time than any of the beaches on the North Shore. Christian will be leaving for a training event on Big Island (another Hawaiian island) soon, though, so we wanted to spend our day together doing something really fun.

And seriously, even the drive alone is worth it. As you can see from the pictures, the mountains that you pass between on your way to Kailua are lush and gorgeous, and it’s a super fun drive in our jeep when we have the top down and music turned up loud. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw my stories of us jamming out and my hair whipping around everywhere. For any Harry Potter fans out there, whenever we’re driving around like that, I always imagine Harry and Ron in the flying car eating toffee and whirling through the clouds. Yes, I am a total nerd.

If you’re ever in Oahu, I would say that Kailua Beach should 100% be on your must-hit beach list. Beware, though, of the crystalline waters, flour-like sand and cool ocean breezes – because all of these will convince you to hang around all day long in the baking sunshine, and that is a surefire recipe for a gnarly sunburn (which I am currently rocking like a badge of honor).I know I should do a better job of caring for my skin, but I just love bathing in the sunlight until I feel all toasty and glowy from the inside out. Whoops. 🙂

I’ll definitely use this new blog series as a way to push myself to try all of Oahu’s famed and hidden-gem beaches and let you all know which ones are the best (IMO).

In other news, after we were done at the beach yesterday, Christian and I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and loved it. The musical score was amazing (again!) and it’s just a completely entertaining movie and a very impressive sequel. I should also add that one of my favorite parts of this movie-going experience was the tote bag we had entirely filled with snacks: flamin’ hot cheetos, chex mix, sour patch kids, reese’s peanut butter cups and raisinets. Plus the slushies we bought at the theater.

We are children. But if this is Neverland, I’m never goin’ back 🙂

Are there any particular beaches you’d like to know about or request for us to try out and report back? Or any movies you’ve seen and loved recently? Christian and I are also (and always) on the hunt for a new Netflix series to binge, so I’d love to hear what you’re obsessed with right now! Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks babes, and happy Monday! May it be filled from start to finish with your choice of caffeine – large vanilla latte(s) for moi – and a very minimal amount of annoyance before noon.

XOXO
