Fun fact: One of the most memorable wedding presents Christian and I received was a small silver vase, and it came with a really cool note from the gift giver.

The note explained that the groom (Christian) was being gifted “That Damn Vase,” as the man who gifted us the vase affectionately referred to it for years, for the purpose of learning how to always put effort into a marriage. He wrote that his sister had given him a vase when he was newly married with instructions to always keep it filled with flowers for his bride – symbolizing the effort it takes to keep a relationship alive and in a continual stage of growth. So the man went into his local floral shop every few weeks, like clockwork, telling the florist he needed fresh flowers for “that damn vase.” The note indicated that Christian should do the same for me, because it would remind him to always remember the romance.

While in Hawaii we talked about switching the concept of flowers with giving pineapples – because I mean, they’re adorable, and also edible! That is very much my version of being financially savvy. But even so, “That Damn Vase” has been filled with flowers since we’ve been here, because Christian is actually the greatest person ever.

And every time I see it bursting with fresh blooms, it makes me think about what I can do to show effort and care in my relationships.

We have kept up with always having a pineapple in the house too, though. It’s sort of a triple-threat gift, because hello, photo prop!!! I thought it went well with the palm print of the swimming suit and I probably had too much fun posing with it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Playing dress up never gets old (and I wish it was a career). This is my new favorite swim suit, because it’s vintage and tropical and high-waisted — I can eat and drink whatever I want in it and not care. Win. It is from Modcloth, which you can shop via my link. I obsess over their clothing quality and everything the brand stands for – you should definitely check them out.

P.S. Let me know if there’s anything you want me to write about soon! I’m working on a book club-type post and some more info on Hawaii spots, like my favorite things in Waialua, but I would love any feedback or ideas you have.

Thanks loves! As always, thanks for reading and definitely keep reaching out! I love hearing from you.

  2. As a beneficiary of “The Damn Vase”, your story made me smile. I feel the same way when I see the beautiful flowers. Perhaps we will incorporate the Pineapple? I love your blog.
